The September 2025 Students of the Month

Lampeter-Strasburg High School recently announced four standouts as the September 2025 Students of the Month while introducing a new recognition system designed to better reflect the school’s academic and character-based values. Moving forward, students will be honored in two categories: the Pioneer Superlative Award and the Portrait of a Pioneer Award.

The Pioneer Superlative Award recognizes students who exceed expectations through persistence, determination, and motivation, using feedback and reflection to achieve growth across academics, behavior, and community involvement.

The Portrait of a Pioneer Award celebrates students who embody the essential skills valued in all L-S graduates: strong communication, collaboration, critical thinking, resilience, intrinsic motivation, and a strong work ethic.

Pioneer Superlative Award Recipients

Lily Kuhns, a junior and the daughter of Ashley and Shane Kuhns of Lampeter, was nominated by the social studies department. Teachers describe Lily as a class leader who demonstrates outstanding critical thinking skills and drives meaningful classroom discussions. Her curiosity and engagement raise the academic level for everyone around her.

Outside of class, Lily is highly involved in the L-S music program, performing in marching band, concert band, jazz band, and orchestra. She also participates in the mock trial club and plays softball for both the Pioneers and Complete Game Academy. A passionate musician, she enjoys playing the French horn, mellophone, trumpet, and guitar. After graduation, Lily plans to continue her studies with the goal of becoming an attorney.

Robert Guy, a freshman and the son of Michael and Jeni Guy of Refton, was nominated by the practical arts department. His teachers note his strong work ethic, positive attitude, and commitment to excellence, qualities that have already made him stand out as a first-year student.

Robert is a member of the L-S cross country team and participates in the AWANA program at his church. In his free time, he enjoys reading, biking, solving puzzles, and playing board games. Looking ahead, Robert hopes to turn his love of technology and creativity into a career as a computer programmer or film editor.

Portrait of a Pioneer Award Recipients

Evelyn Kennel, a junior and the daughter of Nate and Terah Kennel of Lancaster, was selected by the social studies department for consistently demonstrating the traits that define a true Pioneer - responsibility, strong communication, and an exceptional work ethic.

Evelyn is deeply involved at L-S High School. She serves as Student Council president, a peer tutor and Link Crew leader, and participates in Mini-THON, Interact Club, and will soon be inducted into National Honor Society. She’s also a three-sport athlete, competing in cross country, winter track, and track and field. Outside of school, she is active in the Willow Street Mennonite Church youth group and serves on the tech team at Branch Community Church. Evelyn plans to continue her running career at the college level while studying economics and business.

Kayleigh Zahm, a freshman and the daughter of Jason and Nadine Zahm of Strasburg, was nominated by the practical arts team. Her teachers describe her as an exceptional addition to the high school community who has quickly made her mark through creativity, collaboration, and leadership.

Kayleigh is involved in WLSH morning announcements — both in front of and behind the camera — and is a member of the mock trial club and the fall play cast. Beyond school, she enjoys sewing, working with clay, acting, and writing. With her wide-ranging interests and creative drive, Kayleigh hopes to pursue a career in the film industry as a director, writer, and producer.

Lampeter-Strasburg High School congratulates all four students for their hard work, dedication, and embodiment of Pioneer values. Congratulations!
