February 2026 Students of the Month

Lampeter-Strasburg High School is proud to recognize four outstanding students for their hard work, leadership, and character. This month, two sophomores and two freshmen received teacher commendations for their contributions to the school community.

Pioneer Superlatives

Avery Petruso (Freshman)

The daughter of Joe and Rachel Petruso of Lancaster, Avery was nominated by her teachers for her unwavering perseverance, work ethic, and kind spirit. At LSHS, she is a familiar face in the band, Ski and Snowboard Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, as well as on the volleyball and lacrosse teams. Beyond the classroom, Avery is active in her youth group and enjoys traveling with friends and family. Looking ahead, she plans to pursue her interests in finance and health & wellness.

Rian Weitzel (Sophomore)

The daughter of Josh and Allyson Weitzel of Lancaster, Rian stands out for her leadership and communication skills. A standout athlete, Rian has already earned L-L League field hockey All-Star honors and an All-State Honorable Mention. When she isn't busy with Interact Club or Mini-THON, Rian is often found with a book in hand or playing club field hockey. Her future goals include playing collegiate sports while studying nursing, with the ultimate aim of becoming a Physician Assistant.

Portraits of a Pioneer

Anjayah Bair (Sophomore)

The daughter of Shae Bair and Alisha Ashby of Strasburg, Anjayah is recognized for her diligence and her ability to collaborate effectively with her peers. An honor roll student, she balances her academic responsibilities with two part-time jobs and quality time with her family. After graduation, Anjayah plans to bring her creativity and work ethic to the world of cosmetology.

Sam Samberg (Freshman)

The son of Benjamin and Desiree Samberg of Lancaster, Sam was nominated for his drive to challenge himself and the maximum effort he brings to every task. At school, he is part of the LSHS orchestra, Model UN (where he recently earned the Chairman’s Choice Award), and the baseball team. Outside of school, he works as an umpire and explores his interests in anatomy, music, and baseball. After graduation, Sam aspires to enter the medical field and become a general surgeon.

Board Recognition

Inclement weather forced the planned recognition to be rescheduled, so these students will be included with their March counterparts at the April 20 School Board Work Session.
