Pioneer Superlatives
Karis Martin, a sophomore and the daughter of Keith and Justina Martin of Strasburg, is described by teachers as a model student who is always ready to collaborate and serve as a quiet leader in the classroom. Her schedule is a testament to her diverse interests, as she is active in the marching band, concert band, Fellowship of Christian Students, and the softball team. Beyond the classroom, Karis is deeply involved in her community, participating in her church youth group and volunteering with the children’s ministry, Blessings of Hope, and Solid Rock Youth Ministries. In her free time, she enjoys reading, babysitting, and camping. She plans to pursue a career as a math teacher in the future.
Harry Skiles, a junior and the son of Brisbin Skiles and Janet Kirchner of Willow Street, is praised by faculty for his remarkable consistency in all areas of his schoolwork. Teachers note that he is always mindful of others and consistently seeks to lift up those around him. Harry is a member of the LSHS National Honor Society (NHS), STEM Club, concert band, jazz band, and the boys wrestling team. An accomplished student, he is also a two-time Burrowes Scholar, an Eagle Scout, and a lifeguard. When he isn’t in school, Harry stays active through backpacking, skiing, mountain biking, and climbing. He intends to pursue a career in computer science or mathematics.

A former Martin Meylin Student of the Month, he was selected for both county band and county chorus this year. He also plays for the boys lacrosse team. Outside of school, Avery enjoys working on machines and “making things go fast,” a passion he hopes to turn into a career in the mechanics field.
Jeremy Mejia, a junior and the son of Emeterio and Angely Mejia of Lancaster, is recognized by teachers for his ability to work well with every member of the class. He is known for producing thoughtful, unique work and adding significant depth and insight to classroom discussions.
