2026 Burrowes Scholars Named
Congratulations to 48 diligent fifth, eighth, and eleventh graders proclaimed as this year's Burrowes Scholars!

The 2026 Burrowes Scholars
The 2026 Burrowes Scholars reception, held on Thursday, May 7, celebrated the academic excellence, self-discipline, and character of students in grades 5, 8, and 11. The program is named after Dr. Thomas Henry Burrowes, a Strasburg native who was a foundational figure in establishing Pennsylvania’s public school system and served as the president of Pennsylvania State University. This award is among the District’s highest academic honors, recognizing students who go above and beyond in their respective fields of study.
Juniors Harry Skiles and Cooper Hillen, both of whom were Burrowes Scholars at all possible levels, presided over the evening’s events, including a performance by the LSHS Blue Jazz Band and a serving of famous L-S ice cream pie. Principals took the mic to recognize scholars by grade, while parents and sponsoring teachers stood as each student came forward to receive their certificates and pins.
This year’s scholars included two double winners: eighth-grader Nathan Schneider in English Language Arts and Mathematics, and junior Harry Skiles in Mathematics and German. Harry, who also played the trumpet in the evening’s jazz band performance, has been the recipient of five Burrowes Scholar awards throughout his academic career at L-S - a possible record.
Congratulations to all of this year’s Burrowes Scholars! We are proud to recognize you for your hard work!
