The 2019 Lampeter-Strasburg High School commencement ceremony will be streamed live on our YouTube channel on Friday, May 31, at 7:00 p.m.
received May 7, 2019
The L-S Class of 2019 will be graduating in a few short weeks. Here are some facts to help you prepare for the big day:
What is the 2019 graduation date?
Commencement exercises will be held on Friday, May 31, at 7:00 p.m.
Where Will Graduation Take Place?
The graduation ceremony will be held on Pioneer Field at JK Mechanical Stadium. However, there are several changes to the venue given last year’s athletic complex renovation. First, the stage location and position has changed and it will now be located on the 15-yard line closest to the track and turned to face the opposite end-zone. Also, there will be no additional seating on the field, only students and staff will be seated on the field, but both home and visitor bleachers will be available to seat all guests.
The stadium is ADA compliant, special handicapped seating is designated and special tickets are not needed. All other seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. A sign language interpreter will be in attendance. Guests who are deaf or hard of hearing should contact the High School office for details. Guests who have specially-issued outside only graduation tickets may enter the stadium between 5:15 and 6:15 p.m. General admission follows at 6:15 p.m. We would also like to share that the parking lot directly behind the football stadium will be closed to parking, as this will be the location where students will recess following the conclusion of the ceremony. Families are asked to gather in this lot following the ceremony to meet the graduates. There will be additional handicapped parking spaces available at the adjacent parking lot closest to the concession stand. However, should there be inclement weather a decision will be made mid-day and communicated to the students. Tickets are not needed for the outdoor graduation ceremony.
If graduation is held indoors, each participating graduate will utilize the five admittance tickets they received at commencement practice. The tickets allow the holder to enter the Performing Arts Center (PAC) beginning at 6:15 p.m. and the ceremony will start at 7:00 p.m. All seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis if the graduation is held inside. There is limited handicapped seating in the PAC. Handicapped seating areas will be identified, but there are a limited number of those seats available. Additional handicapped seating will not be reserved.
When is the Senior Awards Ceremony?
The Senior Awards Ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 16. Last year, L-S seniors received nearly $80,000 in scholarships from local benefactors. Invitations have already been sent to the award recipients and their families, and details about the event are in the invitation.
Will there be a senior walk?
The L-S senior walk has quickly become one of the District’s most popular traditions. It’s an unforgettable trip down memory lane for the senior class. Younger students are inspired by the soon-to-be graduates, while teachers and staff members enjoy seeing students they may have had in class in the past. This year’s senior walk is scheduled for Tuesday May 28, both students and staff look forward to this event every year!
When is Baccalaureate?
Baccalaureate is scheduled for Wednesday, May 29, at 7:00 p.m. in the PAC. Seniors should arrive in gowns, but no caps. This event is sponsored by the Lampeter-Strasburg Ministerium.
We are looking forward to a successful and memorable commencement for every member of the L-S Class of 2019. If you have further questions about graduation plans, please contact the L-S High School office at (717) 464-3311, ext. 2000.
