LSHS teachers recognized three juniors and one senior for their achievements in February.

Pioneer Superlatives

Maria Glick - Maria is a junior and the daughter of Bill and Monica Glick of Lancaster. Maria is active at school as an award-winning member of the L-S Model UN, plus the Quiz Bowl team, chorus, Madrigals, spring musical cast, Link Crew, and the cross country team. She also participates in community theater. Maria’s varied interests include hiking, music, chemistry, art, running, reading, and honing her culinary skills. She plans to continue her education after high school to pursue a career in chemical engineering.

Maria is a JOY to have in class because she is such a hard worker and is willing to take responsibility for her learning. She appreciates every minute I give her. She works hard at everything she attempts, even when it doesn't come naturally. She likes to challenge herself in so many ways including taking challenging courses like AP Chemistry, attending Model UN conferences, and being part of many musical groups. Maria deserves to be recognized for the effort she puts in."

Jacob Herr - Jake is a junior and the son of Jeff and Ruth Herr of Strasburg. At LSHS, he is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Students and the wrestling team. Jake is also active in his church’s youth group. In his free time,

“Jake is doing a great job in AP Microeconomics. He approaches difficult topics in an out-of-the-box way and isn't afraid to ask questions when he's confused. He's a great addition to the class, and his classmates benefit from having him present. He asks great questions and is highly motivated and a pleasure to work with. He is kind, respectful, and hardworking in everything he does. Congratulations, Jake!”

Students of the Month

Maya Coon - Maya is a junior and the daughter of Lynette Coon and Jasen Coon, both of Lancaster. Maya is one of this year’s marching band drum majors and also participates in the concert band, full orchestra, pit orchestra, graduation orchestra, Link Crew, FFA, spring musical stage crew, and Tri-M Music Honor Society. Her achievements include selection for LLMEA county band and successful audition for PMEA District 7 band, an FFA Greenhand degree, and prior recognition as an eighth-grade Student of the Month. Maya works at Willow Valley Communities and enjoys art, band, orchestra, and working with plants in her free time. She plans to continue her education to pursue a career in agricultural/plant science after graduation.

“Maya is doing very well in her AP Course this year, there is strong evidence of her growth as a student. She's developed and utilized strategies that help her succeed, and I've even noticed that other students are beginning to mimic some of those strategies and she is a great role model for her peers. Maya has a great work ethic. She is always pleasant and appreciative along with being intelligent!”

Leandro Sanchez Sanchez - Leo is a senior and the son of Alain and Nayivi Sanchez of Lancaster. He is a member of the Ski and Snowboard Club at LSHS and recently won five Lancaster County Young Artists awards for his ceramic work. Leo enjoys woodworking and working with clay and aspires to someday be wealthy enough to do anything he wants.

“As a member of the Ski and Snowboard Club, Leo is always the first one to jump in and help load and unload the bus. He is willing to ski with people who don't have another person to ski with and is careful to adhere to set times! I appreciate the way he is always willing to help. Leo is kind, always willing to help others, and a great role model for his peers. Leo has been a great work-study student. He’s awesome at working with other students in the class. Outstanding work ethic in clay. I have never had a poor interaction with Leo. He has always been kind and goal-driven.”
