LSHS March 2025 Students of the Month
Congratulations to Layla Stoltzfus, Gregory Eckert, Leilani Alicea, and Landry Maines!

LSHS teachers recognized three sophomores and one senior for their achievements in March.
Pioneer Superlatives
Layla Stoltzfus - Layla is a sophomore and the daughter of Nevin and Tonya Stoltzfus of Willow Street. At LSHS, she is a member of the Pioneer Interact Club, the Sisterhood Club, and Student Council. She’s also active in her church and youth group. Layla enjoys spending her free time hiking, baking, reading, shopping, and being with friends and family. After high school, she plans to attend college to major in elementary education.
“Layla is awesome in AP Euro! She works hard, always participates in class, never hesitates to help others, and puts forth her best effort! Layla is kind, polite, and always willing to help out her fellow classmates. Layla comes to school every day excited to learn, and she serves as a quiet role model who leads by example.”
Gregory Eckert - Gregory is a sophomore and the son of Patrick and Lucie Eckert of Strasburg. His extracurricular activities at LSHS include the Ski & Snowboard Club and the wrestling team. Gregory is a Boy Scout and the recipient of a 2020 Burrowes Scholar award for English Language Arts. He enjoys traveling, flying planes, playing the guitar, art, and design, and he aspires to pursue a career as an aerospace engineer or a pilot.
“Gregory has a quiet yet consistent way about him. It is clear that he takes in new learning with genuine interest and curiosity. He doesn't go through the motions to get "work done". He thinks about each new topic or subject with intention and care, navigating how to apply this new information/skill/technique to his life.”
Students of the Month
Leilani Alicea - Leilani is a senior and the daughter of Lillian Alicea of Strasburg. She is a member of the LSHS Art Club and the Pioneer Interact Club. When not at school, Leilani can be found making art, at the gym, or spending time with her friends. After graduation, she is planning to pursue a career in real estate or in the medical field.
“Leilani has shown tremendous growth during her 4 years at L-S. Throughout the years, Leilani has become more outgoing and confident with herself and her abilities. She has made positive gains by advocating for herself when she needs support in the classroom. Additionally, Leilani has improved in her ability to manage her academics and work independently. We are very proud of the personal growth that she has shown during her high school career.”
Landry Maines - Landry is a sophomore and the son of Kimberly Maines of Lancaster. At school, he is a member of the Pioneer Interact Club and the football and wrestling teams. Landry was the Burrowes Scholar for German in eighth grade and was also named a Student of the Month at Martin Meylin Middle School. Landry enjoys volunteering and helping out with the YMCA’s soccer program. He also likes listening to music, photography, and spending time with friends. Landry is unsure of his future plans; both teaching and engineering are possibilities, but he is sure his career will be related to math or science.
“Landry is an outspoken student in Accelerated World Cultures. He is always willing to speak up in class, participate in discussions, and he completes his assignments with care and a desire to do well. He is part of the football and wrestling teams. He has shown concern for his Physics grade and has sought out extra help and test corrections."
