Lampeter-Strasburg High School faculty recognized four seniors for their achievements in October 2023.

Pioneer Superlatives

Lauren Livengood - Lauren is the daughter of Matthew and Christie Livengood of Willow Street. The science department nominated Lauren as an excellent student and active class participant who works hard to achieve her best regardless of her strength in class. She is the senior class president, the Inter-Club Council president, a National Honor Society co-president, a Link Crew leader, and a member of the Mini-THON executive council, Mock Trial Club, student council, and the High School Heroes. Lauren is also the senior class representative to the L-S School Board, a position that requires her to attend evening meetings and present to the board and public each month about happenings at the high school. She received Burrowes Scholar awards in eighth grade for science and in eleventh grade for social studies, and she maintains a consistent spot on the distinguished honor roll. Lauren dances competitively with LEDC outside school and works in the studio office. She also works summers at Village Greens Miniature Golf, babysits, and is an active Lampeter Church of the Brethren member. She spends her free time traveling, exploring the outdoors, playing board and card games, baking, and reading historical fiction and mysteries. Lauren is keeping her career options open at the moment but is interested in pursuing education and law.

Peter Mecouch - Peter is the son of Peter and Christie Mecouch of Strasburg. The English department nominated him as an exceptional, focused student and writer with an ironclad work ethic. Peter is the STEM Club treasurer and is a member of the chess club, distinguished honor roll, and the varsity bowling and tennis teams. Peter is active outside of school as a Chesapeake Bay Foundation Student Leader and Chief Science Officer and volunteers with the Lancaster Science Factory and with Ten Million Trees as a tree planter. His hobbies include bike riding, writing, self-study, bowling, and ping pong. After graduation, Peter plans to begin his journey to earn a doctorate in theoretical/particle physics and work as a theoretical physicist at CERN or FERMILAB.

Students of the Month

Bethany Helms - Bethany is the daughter of Dave and Jennifer Helms of Lancaster. The science department nominated her as a respectful, focused student who works hard and is willing to help others achieve their goals. Bethany is a member of the LSHS marching band, concert band, jazz band, National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Students, and the Inter-Club Council. Bethany attends youth group outside of school and is part of her youth group's leadership team. She enjoys music, architecture, collecting vinyl records, and spending time with friends, and she plans to study architecture after graduating from high school.

Artem Nebel - Artem is the son of Craig and Kristen Nebel of Lancaster. The English department nominated him as a student with a tremendous work ethic and perseverance in class, especially considering English is not his first language. Artem is a member of the Pioneer Interact Club and the varsity track and field team. He works part-time at the Pottery Barn Outlet and as a soccer referee and enjoys coding, fitness, and spending time with friends. Artem plans to keep learning and gathering life experiences with the goal of eventually starting a tech company.
