Pioneer Superlatives
Lydia Marcroft - Lydia is a sophomore and the daughter of Andrew and Lee Marcroft of Strasburg. At L-S she is a member of the Pioneer Interact Club, Varsity Club, Sisterhood Club, Environmental Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the varsity girls soccer and lacrosse teams. SHe maintains a place on the distinguished honor roll at school, volunteers at a food bank and at church, and is active in a Young Life youth group. Lydia enjoys cooking and baking, playing sports, being active, and watching soccer and tennis. She hopes to continue her education after high school to pursue a career in food science or government.
“Lydia has been fantastic in AP Government this year. She continuously performs well on assessments and projects. She sticks out as a leader of the class as a sophomore with primarily juniors and seniors. She is dedicated to the content and is always asking questions and driving class discussions.”
Alex Johanning - Alex is a senior and the son of Lisa and Tim Johanning of Lancaster. He is active at school as the team manager and assistant coach of the varsity football team, a WLSH morning announcer, and a member of the track and field team. Alex, who was the 2025 Prom King, works out at CrossFit Uncompromised, does hip hop dancing at Willow Street Dance Steps, and volunteers at Gigi’s Playhouse and the Special Olympics. His leisure time is spent enjoying music, dance, and theater, as well as working out and spending time with family and friends. Alex will attend Millersville University in the fall to be part of the Integrated Studies Program and study music entertainment. Look for his name in lights!
“If you're lucky enough to cross paths with Alex Johanning during the school day, you're guaranteed to leave with a smile. His positive attitude is infectious, and he has a unique gift for making everyone feel valued and seen. Whether it's a quick hello in the hallway or heartfelt words of encouragement, Alex spreads kindness wherever he goes.
.
Alex embodies what it means to be a Pioneer—committed, passionate, and always willing to lend a helping hand. He works hard in his classes, rising to meet challenges with determination and heart, all while keeping his sights set on graduation this June. Outside the classroom, Alex is just as involved. He's the sideline manager for the high school football team, cheering on players and coaches in all kinds of weather. He throws discus and shot put for the track team, takes the stage in school theater productions, supports Mini-THON, and even helps with the morning announcements.
Alex doesn't just participate—he leads with heart and pride in everything he does. He is an inspiration to others, encouraging those around him to work hard, be kind, and have fun. His dedication to his school and his community makes him an outstanding role model. For his unwavering school spirit, commitment to excellence, and genuine care for others, Alex Johanning is more than deserving of the April Pioneer Superlative”
Students of the Month
Gavin Gallagher - Gavin is a freshman and the son of Kate and Bernie Gallagher of Lancaster. He’s a member of the Pioneer Interact Club and has volunteered at music festivals and the Lampeter Fair. Gavin likes to spend time biking, working out at the YMCA, playing basketball, and hanging out with his friends. After high school, he hopes to pursue a career either building or selling houses.
“Gavin puts forth his highest effort each day in class. He helps out his classmates without being asked to do so. Gavin is kind to others and leads by example. Gavin asks thoughtful questions in class and really takes pride in understanding the correct process to arrive at answers. He demonstrates a maturity far beyond that of his peers. He is a delight to have in class. I wish we could clone him!”
Brianna Howse - Brianna is a sophomore and the daughter of Amy and Terrance Howse of Lancaster. She is a member of the Pioneer Interact Club and the girls' lacrosse team. She is actively involved at church and has recently enjoyed volunteering with Feed My Starving Children. Outside of school, Brianna enjoys reading her Bible, singing, playing lacrosse, playing with her dogs, and spending time with friends and family. She is unsure of her future plans but knows she wants to help people and make a difference.
“Brianna is working really hard in Accelerated World Cultures. She continues to see success in and out of the classroom due to her relentless work ethic and motivation. She is a dedicated student and diligent with all of her assignments and is active in all class activities. She is also playing lacrosse and has managed her time well during the season. She is also friendly and kind to all of her classmates.”
