Winter Sports Recap 2024-2025
A look back at the 2024-2025 winter sports season.
LSHS Teams excelled this year in the winter sports season.
Boys Basketball
The boys' team finished the regular season in third place in Section 3 and sixth in District 3 5A. They qualified for the District playoffs and advanced to the quarterfinal round, as well as to the first round of the PIAA State Championships. Chase Smucker reached 1,000 points this season and became the L-S Boys Basketball All-Time Leading Scorer. He also broke the single-game scoring record with 50 points. Chase finished his high school basketball career with 1,486 points.
Girls Basketball
The girls' team finished the regular season in fourth place in Section 3 and 12th in District 3 5A. They advanced to the first round of District play. Anna Horner made 123 three-pointers in her L-S basketball career, was an LNP 10 For the Show honoree, and a L-L Section 3 Second Team All-Star. Kirah Carter won the Sports Illustrated High School Play of the Week for her buzzer-beater shot against Manheim Township. Also receiving accolades were Sophia Knarr, L-L Section 3 Defensive All-Star, Addison Boyd, L-L Section 3 Academic All-Star, Elaina Hostetter, LNP Second 10 For the Show honoree, and Jillian Groff, LNP Second 10 For the Show and Top Rookie honoree.
Bowling
The bowling team won the L-L Section 3 Championship for the third year in a row. They advanced to the first round of the L-L Team Championship. Emily Dunlap finished 9th in the L-L League Individuals Championship and was a district and regional qualifier. Chase Harsh, Gannon Black, Maddux Harsh, Isaac Cramer, Cam Straley, Jack Ross, and Scott Armstrong competed in the L-L Boys Singles Tournament.
Swimming
The girls' team finished in 6th place and the boys in 14th place at the PIAA District 3 2A Championship meet. The girls competed in three relays and ten individual races, while the boys competed in two relays and eight individual races. Maddy Juba and Lilah Schwartz brought home a total of four individual freestyle medals and swam alongside Kelsey Spaulding and Audrina Wallace for a 200 freestyle medal and Audrina and Makenna Hostetter for a 400 freestyle medal. Maddy Juba advanced to the PIAA AA State Meet, where she competed in the 200 freestyle.
Boys Wrestling
In boys' wrestling, Rex Giberson placed 7th at the L-L League Tournament and received an L-L League Section 2 Honorable Mention, while Charlie Creighton placed 8th at the tournament. And an impressive 18 L-S wrestlers were named L-L League Academic All-Stars this year: Chase Campbell, Jordan Chen, Charlie Creighton, Brock Daniels, Greg Eckert, Rex Giberson, Jake Herr, Eli Izquieta, Landry Maines, Karan Rai, Collin Shelley, Shrey Singh, Harry Skiles, Owen Smith, Derrick Sprout, Jai Steberger, Mitchell Swarr, and Thad Wolf.
Girls Wrestling
The girls' wrestling team won its first-ever team dual match this year. Makenna Andrews took fourth place at the District tournament and qualified for Regionals. Kinsley Ferreira took third at the L-L League Tournament and fifth at Districts and was named an L-L League First Team All-Star. Sophia Maloney was also an L-L League First Team All-Star. Avery Planck, Rylee Diem, Kinsley Ferreira, and Lily Underhill were all named L-L League Academic All-Stars this year.
