March 24 Update - Statement from Dr. Peart

posted on June 30, 2020

Dear L-S Parents and Guardians,

I sincerely hope that this correspondence finds you and your family in good health. The Pennsylvania Department of Education has announced that all schools will remain closed to students through at least April 9th as a result of the COVID-19 response efforts. This closure order could be extended beyond April 9th, if it is necessary to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus and save lives.

Under the new timeline, schools would reopen on April 7th for two days to allow school administrators, teachers, and other staff time to prepare classrooms, set up cafeterias, schedule transportation, and arrange other business operations. Students would return to school on April 9th, unless the closure is extended.

During this extended closure, Lampeter-Strasburg School District is planning to provide continuity of education for students by implementing optional at-home learning plans for grade levels and subjects. Teachers and administrators have been collaborating virtually this week to formulate the details and prepare to make these activities available to ALL students, beginning Monday, March 30th.

As previously posted, the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) cancelled all PSSA testing and Keystone exams for the 2019-2020 school year. Please visit the College Board website for the most up to date information regarding Advanced Placement (AP) testing.

While all of us would prefer to be in school and providing face to face instruction, we recognize that the current closure is in the best interest for the safety and wellbeing of all Pennsylvanians. We will continue to monitor, assess, and further develop the continuity of education plan in the event the school closure extends beyond April 9th. Plans at each grade level, building, and subject will likely look different given each set of unique circumstances (not all students have District issued Chromebooks, not all students have home internet access, etc.). If your student experiences any issues accessing the at-home learning plans being developed by our teachers, please reach out to your student’s building principal for assistance. We will do our best to remove any obstacles for our students. I recognize that there are many unanswered questions regarding the future of the 2019-2020 school year. For the most up to date information and guidance being provided to school districts by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), please visit the PDE school guidance link.

Please continue to check our website for any updates regarding optional at-home learning plans. Thank you for your patience and continued support of our students and staff during this unprecedented time. TOGETHER, we WILL get through this!

Sincerely,

Kevin S. Peart, Ed.D.
Superintendent

March 23 Update - New PA Guidelines

The Pennsylvania Department of Education has announced that all schools will remain closed through at least April 6 as a result of the COVID-19 response efforts. The closure order could be extended beyond April 6 if necessary to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus and save lives.

Under the new timeline, schools would reopen on April 7 for two days to allow school administrators, teachers and other staff time to prepare classrooms, set up cafeterias, schedule transportation and arrange other business operations. Students would return to school on April 9, unless the closure is extended in response to the situation involving the virus.

While school is closed, Lampeter-Strasburg School District plans to offer optional at-home student learning plans for grade levels and subjects. Teachers and administrators are collaborating remotely this week to develop a plan that will be communicated to our students and families once the specific details are finalized. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time.

Please check back for updates later this week regarding the optional at-home learning plans, and please stay safe.
