Ryan's Race Returns (Virtually) for 14th Year
The 14th annual Ryan’s Race 5K will be held virtually this May. Participants can register now through May 8 and can complete the race at a location of their choosing any time between May 9-20 in any of the following categories:
Middle School - boys and girls in grades 6-8
High School - boys and girls in grades 9-12
Adult - men and women over the age of 18
A minimum of 10 runners must register in order for a category to become eligible for best time awards. Times must be received by May 20 at 5 pm. The awards will be in the form of gift cards to local businesses and medals. Winners’ names and race times will be published on the Ryan’s Race website. Runners/walkers who are running non-competitively can sign up at any time, but May 8 is the deadline to guarantee a t-shirt.
Awards will be announced and t-shirts, mugs, and tumblers can be picked up at the L-S track from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, May 22. Items can also be shipped home for a small charge.
Ryan’s Race is run in honor of Ryan “Whitey” Weitzel and all who battle cancer. Ryan was an extraordinary individual who led his life with an amazingly positive attitude, even while he battled the awful cancer that ultimately took his life. His life continues to be an inspiration to his family, friends, and the L-S community.
The funds raised from Ryan’s Race support two one thousand dollar scholarships that are given each year to two seniors who reflect Ryan’s character and attitude.
Beginning in 2022, 50% of proceeds will go to a cancer-related organization chosen by the Ryan’s Race committee and L-S High School varsity club. To register and for more information, please visit ryansrace.org..
This year's shirts are royal blue and feature Ryan Weitzel's name and number 22 on the back.
New this year, participants can order Pioneer mugs or tumblers
