High School Artists Receive Scholastic National Awards
Lindsay Szymanski and Makenzie Lefever received national acclaim for their artwork.
The Lampeter-Strasburg High School art department is excited to announce that L-S has two National Scholastic Art Award winners! Senior Lindsay Szymanski won a Silver Award for a brass egg-shaped pendant she created with a teeny hinged door and a dragon sculpted around it. Junior Makenzie Lefever won a Gold Award for a delicate, fun, and wearable bubble blower shaped like a jellyfish. Kenzie and her parents are invited to the National Ceremony in New York City at Carnegie Hall in June in honor of this year's Gold Award winners.
Both pieces are currently on display through April 14 at the Demuth Museum as part of the Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition.
Since 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have recognized creative teenagers from across the country. By receiving a Scholastic National Medal, Lindsey and Kenzie join a legacy of celebrated authors and artists, including Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Robert Redford, Joyce Carol Oates, and more. Nearly 350,000 works of art and writing were submitted by students in grades 7–12 this year. Receiving a National Medal places these students within the top 1% of all submissions!
