Ten juniors will compete for the title of 2019 Pioneer of the Year in a pageant style event that will be held in conjunction with the school’s annual Model United Nations (UN) Talent Showcase. The event will take place at the L-S Performing Arts Center on Friday, March 15. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7:00 p.m.

To start the evening, Pioneer of the Year contestants will introduce themselves while wearing attire that most represents who they are, the school, or their hero. During the second segment, the contestants will be re-introduced wearing a retro 1980s outfit, while emcees Matt Shockey and Adam Titter relate humorous stories about each person. The contestants will then face off in a 1980s lip-sync contest. Finally, each contestant will be asked a question during the interview segment. Talent show contestants will perform between segments and special guest Mr. Lou Abbattiello will present a comedy and magic routine.

Tickets are $5 and will be sold to students during lunch periods the week of the event and at the door on March 15. Audience votes are $1 each. Proceeds will be shared by the Model UN to benefit Doctors without Borders and the LSHS PTO to fund the Spring Blast and Post-Prom events on May 18, 2019.
