Senior Ivy McComsey is the first winner of the Mitch Lyons Clay Scholarship for her art portfolio. The scholarship, established by the Red Raven Art Company in Lancaster, is given in memory of local ceramic artist Mitch Lyons. It will be awarded each year to a promising student to use toward his or her art education and will pass the torch of creative curiosity to young emerging artists.

"Creative curiosity is a perfect way to describe Ivy McComsey," said Mrs. Meg Lau, Ivy's ceramics teacher at L-S High School. "She has worked extremely hard this semester and has engaged in many new technical processes. She learned how to throw large scale pottery, took a figure sculpting class at PCAD, learned how to draw and paint from observation, wood- and gas-fired outside of school with me, and learned how to weld in her grandfather’s blacksmithing shop. Her work was inspired by her travels this summer throughout Europe, specifically by the Greek and Roman vessels."

Ivy will be honored at a reception to be held at the Red Raven Art Gallery at a date and time to be announced.
