L-S High School Faculty Names January 2020 Students of the Month
A senior, two juniors, and a sophomore received recognition from L-S High School faculty and were named the Pioneer Superlatives and Students of the Month for their achievements in January 2020.
Alyssa is a junior and the daughter of Patrick and Kathleen Zaepfel of Lancaster. She is the secretary of the L-S Thespian Society and a member of the band and marching band, orchestra and pit orchestra, art club, STEM Pioneers, Tri-M (music honor society), and National Honor Society. Alyssa is an award-winning writer, having earned a Scholastic Silver Key in the fictional short story category, as well as a distinguished honor roll member throughout high school and two-time Burrowes Scholar award recipient. Outside of school, Alyssa plays the bass flute in Millersville University's Flute Choir and volunteers in the tech booth at Victory Church in Strasburg. She also enjoys painting, drawing, playing the flute and piccolo, writing, and attending theater productions. Alyssa is planning to study medicine and pursue a career in dermatology.
Hunter is a junior and the son of John Kieley of Willow Street and Liana Kieley of Strasburg. He is a member of the L-S High School honor roll and National Honor Society. Outside of school, Hunter is a counselor at Pocono Plateau Camp and Retreat Center and enjoys spending time writing, hiking, and reading. He plans to pursue a career as a college professor of history or English literature.
Students of the Month
Sabat is a junior and the daughter of Moussa and Carmen Sakr of Lancaster. She is a member of the L-S High School chorus. Sabat received numerous academic and arts awards at her previous school in Dubai before attending L-S. She is an altar girl and enjoys singing, dancing, and abstract art. After high school, Sabat is planning to pursue both a career in psychiatry and her passion for singing.
Weston is a sophomore and the son of Kurt Weaver of Lancaster and Barbara Lechner of Willow Street. At school, he is active in chorus, Madrigals, plays and musicals, and is a member of the varsity boys tennis team. Weston is involved in missions work at a children's music camp in the Bahamas. He also enjoys sports, reading the Bible, watching television with his family, and acting for Piercing Word ministry. Weston plans to attend Penn State York to pursue a career in petroleum engineering.
The L-S Board of School Directors honored the Students of the Month at their February 3 meeting. Board member David Beiler (right) presented the students with certificates of recognition.
