Lampeter-Strasburg High School Students of the Month
High school teachers have selected four exceptional students to applaud as September 2018 Pioneer Superlatives and Students of the Month. Senior Hannah Andersen and junior Luke Brodersen are this month's Pioneer Superlatives, honored for maximizing growth potential in all areas of school and community for the benefit and betterment of all. Sophomore Mary Torres and junior Jared Risser are this month's Students of the Month, honored for maximizing persistence, determination, and motivation to achieve success.
Hannah is a senior and the daughter of Tom and Jennifer Andersen of Lancaster. At LSHS, she plays the violin in the orchestra, is the treasurer of the Asian Culture Club, and is a member of National Honor Society and the Ski and Snowboard Club. Hannah is a regular on the distinguished honor roll and the Burrowes Scholar for Social Studies at all possible levels. Her interests include skiing, playing tennis, traveling, reading, music, cooking, watching movies and documentaries, and spending time with her family, friends, and dog. Hannah is currently undecided between attending college to study international business/politics or following a pre-med track to become a brain surgeon.
Luke is a junior and the son of Glen and Julie Brodersen of Willow Street. In addition to making distinguished honor roll every marking period in high school, he participates in marching band, concert band, orchestra, tech crew, and the quiz bowl team. Luke works as a cashier at Darrenkamp's Market, serves as a sixth grade leader at LCBC Church, and spends his free time playing video games and disc golf. He is interested in math and science and plans to attend college to study chemical engineering.
Students of the Month
Mary is a sophomore and the daughter of William and Suzanne Torres of Strasburg. She is a member of the Pioneer Interact Club, Mini-THON committee, chorus, orchestra, pit orchestra, stage crew, and costume crew. Mary spends time volunteering for the Sertoma Club, the Strasburg-Heisler Library, and St. Joseph's Church. She also enjoys activities like reading, writing, playing the ukulele and 'cello, and crocheting. Mary plans to pursue a career as an ultrasound technician or an event planner.
Jared is a junior and the son of Brent and Deborah Risser of Willow Street. He is a active member and sentinel of the Lampeter-Strasburg High School Garden Spot FFA Chapter, from which he has earned a Chapter Degree and a Greenhand Degree. Outside of school, Jared enjoys showing and raising animals, agriculture, and motocross. He plans to pursue a career as a truck driver after graduation.
The students received public recognition at the October 1 meeting of the L-S Board of School Directors.
