Knapp Pens Winning Optimist Club Essay

Senior Kyle Knapp is the winner of the Lancaster County Optimist Club’s annual essay contest. His essay was chosen from 28 entries written on the year’s theme of Can Society Function without Respect?. Kyle has been awarded a $500 scholarship and will move on to district competition, where he has the potential to win an additional $2,500 in scholarships. In the meantime, he will attend the Optimist Club's meeting on March 27 to read his winning essay.
Optimist Clubs are dedicated to "Bringing Out the Best in Kids" through community service programs. The Lancaster Optimist Club was founded in 1944. Currently, the club focuses on their slogan "Friends of Youth." The Club is currently holding photography and public speaking contests for high school students.
