LSHS April 2018 Students of the Month

Four Lampeter-Strasburg High School students have been recognized for their achievements and recognized as April 2018 Pioneer Superlatives and Students of the Month.

Pioneer Superlatives

Sarah Gawne

Sarah Gawne April 2018 PS web Sarah Gawne

Sarah is a senior and the daughter of Aron and Jennifer Gawne of Lancaster. She is active in sports and activities at LSHS, including basketball, cross country, track and field, winter track, Aevidum Club, concert band, Fellowship of Christian Students, High School Heroes program, National Honor Society, and student tutoring. Sarah is a former Rotary Student of the Month, a basketball and track captain, an honor roll member, and the recipient of the Armstrong World Industries Foundation Scholarship, the Fackler-Hower Sportsmanship Award, the Basketball All-Star honor roll, and the E. Jerry Brooks Academic Excellence Award. She volunteers at the L-S Girls Basketball Camp and serves on the children’s ministries and guest connections teams at her church. In her free time Sarah enjoys crocheting, reading, writing, watching Marvel movies, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends. She plans to attend Penn State University, Main Campus, to pursue a degree in biomedical engineering.

Mark Wittemann

Mark is a senior and the son Erick and Mary Wittemann of Strasburg. He is active at LSHS as a member of the chess club, tennis team, STEM Club, and the Quiz Bowl team, on which he’s served as MVP, Captain, vice president, and president. He volunteers at Impact! Missions Store in Refton and serves as an acolyte, usher, and sound controller at his church. Mark is also a member of the Lancaster Chess Club and the US Chess Federation as well as the ASM, a national society of materials engineers. He enjoys baseball, chess, board games, Lego building, listening to music, reading, and tennis. and plans to pursue a career as a materials engineer, designing new materials, improving existing materials, and implementing materials in real-world applications.

Autumn Swope

Autumn Swope April 2018 SOM web Autumn Swope

Autumn is a junior and the daughter of Jeffrey and Karin Swope of Strasburg. She is a cheerleader and a member of the pop culture club and the philosophy club and a contributor to Enigma magazine. Autumn plays drums and helps with dinners at her church, and volunteers with Camp Swatara group retreats. She is an honor roll student and has earned several Daisy Scout petals. Autumn spends time filming videos, drumming, gardening, and writing and plans to pursue a career as a teacher or director.

Steven Shepherd

Steven Shepherd April 2018 SOM web Steven Shepherd

Steven is a sophomore and the son of Gary and Alicia Shepherd of Willow Street. He serves as a Willow Street volunteer firefighter and has earned his Greenhand degree from the Garden Spot FFA. Steven enjoys inventing and building things as well as learning about business, law enforcement, protective services, and politics. He plans to pursue a career as a police officer and/or a voice-over artist.

The students were recognized at the May 7 meeting of the L-S Board of School Directors.
