Four Inducted to L-S Athletic Hall of Fame

Tracey Lynch, Katie Lynch, Meredith Chura Maher, and Jeremy Hess are honored at the Hall of Fame Game on September 29, 2017.

Four L-S alumni joined the Athletic Hall of Fame at an induction ceremony on Friday, September 29. After the ceremony, the group received public recognition during half-time at the Hall of Fame football game. Congratulations to these distinguished Pioneer athletes:
Jeremy Hess - Class of 2001
- Was a member of the LSHS varsity football, wrestling, and baseball teams
- Served as captain of the football, wrestling, and baseball teams in 2001, and was named MVP for baseball
- Earned nine varsity letters in high school sports
- Named LL League All-Star in wrestling for four consecutive years
- Won numerous wrestling awards including two 40 Take Down Club Awards, two Brute Group Awards, Iron Man Award, Outstanding Athlete Award, Most Points Award, and Most Falls Award
- Advanced as a four-time sectional qualifier, four-time district qualifier, and one-time state qualifier in wrestling.
- Took second in 2000 league and district wrestling tournaments and fourth at the 2001 district tournament.
- Named LL League All Star in baseball in 2000 and First Team All Section (Shortstop) in 2001
- Joined the 300 Club with a batting average of .367
- Was part of the 2001 LL League Section 3 champion baseball team
- Selected for pre-season All State baseball team in 2001
- Awarded Best Athlete by Class of 2001, as well L-S Senior Awards for athletics, Hall of Fame, and Phys Ed
- Awarded a partial scholarship to Shippensburg University, accumulating 18 home runs, 32 doubles, 101 RBIs, and a .351 batting average
- Played in the Clark Griffith Collegiate Baseball League (2003), the New York Collegiate Baseball League (2004), and was a All North Atlantic Region Second Team Pick (2004); PSAC Western Division First Team Pick and Second Team Pick (2004 & 2006)
- Named PSAC Player of the Week twice
- Joined the Shippensburg All-Decade Team in 2010
- Helped coach Shippensburg wrestling in 2006, L-S varsity baseball in 2007, and Millersville University baseball in 2008
- Plays Quad County Optimist League baseball since 2001, as well as intramural flag football and basketball
- Coaches Little League and youth basketball teams
Meredith Chura Maher - Class of 2006
- Was a member of the LSHS varsity cross country, basketball, and track teams
- Earned 11 varsity letters in high school sports
- Earned MVP in cross country in 2003, 2004, and 2005 and competed at districts all three years
- Named a cross country Scholar Athlete in 2005
- Placed in the Top 30 at 2004 & 2005 LL League meets
- Named basketball team captain and MVP in 2005 and 2006 and was second in the LL League for scoring both years
- Earned a spot on the Ephrata Tournament All-Star team in 2003 & 2004 and on the Columbia Tournament All-Star team in 2004
- Joined the 1,000 point club in basketball with 1079 total points
- Averaged 19.9 per game during high school basketball career
- Medaled at track leagues and invitationals for four years. Medaled at District III meet for three years.
- Participated in District III track meet for four years and at PIAA State meet for two years.
- Was part of the 2005 record-breaking 4x400 relay team with a time of 4:02.7
- Attended Millersville University and competed in cross country and track and field
- Was a part of a record-breaking 1600 meter relay team at Millersville
- Competed at PSACS and regionals during college
- Began competing in 5k races, half marathons, and recently completed the Philadelphia Marathon in 3:41.44
- Volunteered as a coach with the L-S girls basketball program in 2008 & 2009
- Coached junior high cross country (2008 & 2009) and varsity cross country at L-S (2010 - 2014), including three years as varsity head coach.
- Served at L-S as a junior high track and field distance coach from 2008-2013 and as a varsity track and field distance coach in 2014 & 2015
Katie Lynch - Class of 2009
- Was a member of the LSHS varsity softball, basketball, and cheerleading teams
- Earned eight varsity letters in high school sports and was named softball MVP in both 2008 and 2009
- Served as team captain in 2008 and 2009 for girls basketball and for softball
- Selected to basketball All-Section in 2008 and 2009
- Scored a total of 786 points in high school basketball career
- Selected to softball All-Section for four consecutive years (2006-2009), All-League for three years (2007-2009), and All-State for three years (2007-2009)
- Named softball Rookie of the Year in 2006
- Named LL League Player of the Year in 2008 with a .522 BA and 0 strikeouts
- Holds second place all-time school records for batting average (.522 in 2009) and triples (5 in 2006)
- Was part of section and league champion 2006 and 2007 teams that advanced to State Playoffs. (2007 team also district champs)
- Received awards for L-S Outstanding Female Athlete (2009), Varsity Club Sportsmanship (2008), and Physical Education Burrowes Scholar (2008)
- Received Health & Physical Education Award, Marty Johns Award, and Varsity Club Sportsmanship Award at 2009 Senior Awards
- Played softball at Kutztown University and lettered all four years; earned four Scholar Athlete Awards
- Awarded Conference Freshman Player of the Year in 2010, and was team captain in 2012 and 2013, among other titles
- Holds Kutztown all-time Top 10 school career records in at bats, hits, RBIs, doubles, home runs, hit by pitches, total bases, and games played
- Advanced to the NCAA Division II World Series in both 2012 and 2013 (silver medal) with the Kutztown team
- Coached a variety of youth teams, and co-directs L-S Softball Booster Youth Camp with sister Tracey
- Coached at Kutztown University in 2014
- Coaching at Iona College
Tracey Lynch - Class of 2005
- Was a member of the LSHS varsity softball, basketball, and cheerleading teams
- Earned 10 varsity letters in high school sports
- Served as captain of the softball team for three years and as cheerleading captain for two years and was named MVP in both sports.
- Selected to All-Section for three seasons and First Team All-Section in 2004 and 2005 and to All-League in 2004 and 2005.
- Received awards for Defensive Player of the Year, Most Improved Player, 2005 Female Athlete of the Year, and the Outstanding Female Athlete Hall of Fame Senior Award
- Batted over .415 in 2004 and 2005 seasons
- Led all LL League catchers in Fielding Percentage and Runners Caught Stealing in 2004 and 2005 seasons
- Help lead softball team to back-to-back winning seasons and the team’s first district playoff appearance in program history (2004 & 2005)
- Became the first Division I female athlete from L-S, playing softball at Liberty University (College career was cut short due to a shoulder injury)
- Received opportunity to play competitive softball in China against the Chinese national team, including Chinese Olympic players
- Served as Director of Softball Operations for academies in Virginia and New York
- Coached at LIU Post from 2010-2012, leading the team to the Division II East Region Championship and the College World Series
- Received NFCA East Region Coaching Staff of the Year Award
- Coached at College of Charleston for 2012-2013 season, during which the team finished second in regular season Southern Conference play and third in the Southern Conference playoffs
- Coached at Stony Brook University from 2013-2015, earning two titles and a combined regular season conference record of 29-4 over two seasons
- Conducts college recruiting seminars and coaches clinics throughout Pennsylvania, New York, North Carolina, and South Carolina
- Co-directs L-S Softball Boosters
- Youth Camp for the past three years with sister Katie
- Coaching at NC Greensboro
