Students Honored for Patriotic Essays
Three High School students and one 8th grader received scholarships from 2016-2017 Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) essay contests. The scholarships are from VFW Post 7294 in Millersville.
High school students participated in the Voice of Democracy Essay Competition, the theme of which this year was "My Responsibility to America." The following students won scholarship awards:
Quinn Benner (12th grade) - First place/$400 scholarship
Pierson Castor (10th grade) - Second place/$275 scholarship
Justin Edwards (12th grade) - Third place/$150 scholarship
Quinn's essay will now move to district and state competition and could ultimately land him a $30,000 scholarship if he wins at the national level.

Eighth grader Shayla Burns received a third place award at the middle school level for her essay in the Patriot's Pen Competition. The theme was "The America I Believe In." Both contests were sponsored at the local level by VFW Post 7294 in Millersville.

Coming Soon - VFW Art Awards Competition
This spring, students in grades 9-12 are invited to participate in the VFW's Young American Creative Patriotic Art Awards. Entries are due to VFW Post 7294 by March 31. Information is available in the High School office.
