Students Honor Veterans with Flag Essay Contest
The students receive their American Legion certificates from Mr. Barry Baylor
Three Martin Meylin students went above and beyond this spring by participating in an essay writing project on behalf of the American Legion. There was no award or class credit for participation – these students simply gave their time and talent because they wanted to honor veterans and the American flag. Seventh grader Riley Rinehard and eighth grader Josiah Inman both submitted essays about what the American flag means to them and seventh grader Sawyer Lancaster spent time designing and distributing a poster advertising the essay writing. All three of these students have family members who have served our country.
The initiative was developed by social studies teacher and veteran Gary Schreckengost and library assistant Rae Ann Henry, whose father served in the Marine Corps. Martin Meylin custodian Barry Baylor, a Vietnam veteran who will retire at the end of this year, thanked each student and presented certificates of honor for their efforts.
