Fifth Graders Help Pets for the Holidays
Students from Mr. Nolt and Mrs. Henry's classes gathered food and supplies to help pets stay in their homes this holiday season.
The holidays are a time to remember and help those in need—even family pets. During December the students of Mrs. Henry’s and Mr. Nolt’s fifth grade classes decided to complete a service project for a community organization. After brainstorming a list of possible projects, they voted overwhelmingly to gather donations for the Pet Pantry of Lancaster County. According to its website, the Pet Pantry of Lancaster County has the mission “to help avoid the surrender of a family pet due to the lack of resources to feed and care for them.”
At the end of the drive, students and their families donated almost 100 pounds of dry and canned pet food, 20 pounds of treats, and nearly 50 pet care supplies (toys, leashes, food dishes, etc.). On Wednesday, December 22, the students got to see all the donated supplies gathered in one impressive pile! They also welcomed Maya, the District's facility dog, to learn how she serves students there.
