Musser and Shelton Named 2017 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists
National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists Nathan Musser and Conner Shelton
Two Lampeter-Strasburg High School students have been named as Semifinalists in the 62nd National Merit Scholarship Program. Seniors Nathan Musser and Conner Shelton are among the 16,000 academically talented seniors across the country to earn the honor this year. Semifinalists represent less than one percent of high school seniors and include the highest scoring entrants in each state.
Nathan Musser is the son of Stephen and Lindy Musser of Lancaster. He is a member of the concert band, Interact club, yearbook, and the Fellowship of Christian Students and has been on the honor roll or distinguished honor roll every marking period throughout middle and high school. Outside of school, Nathan works at Covenant CPA and Dutch Wonderland and attends youth group. He recently served as a student representative on the L-S Comprehensive Planning Committee, helping to form the District’s goals for the next three years. Nathan enjoys reading, writing and moviemaking and hopes to write novels.
Conner Shelton is the son of Mark and Heather Shelton of Lancaster. At L-S, Conner is a member of the marching band, concert band, concert choir, full orchestra, and the spring musical. He was the eleventh grade Burrowes scholar for science in 2016 and has been a consistent member of the honor roll in middle and high school. Conner advanced to county band in grades 9-11 and participated in the Millersville University Honors Wind Ensemble. He enjoys playing instruments and making music, playing video games, and participating in poi. Conner plans to pursue a career in pharmacology.
Approximately 1.6 million high school juniors from more than 22,000 US high schools entered the program last year by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Nathan and Conner will now complete the Finalist application process to be considered for the 7,500 National Merit Scholarships that will be offered in the spring of 2017.
