Guidance Services

The overall goal of the Lampeter-Strasburg School District Developmental Guidance Program is to facilitate the instructional process. We believe that every student can learn and in partnership with parents, it is our job to provide the opportunities and resources to enable all students to accomplish developmental tasks within the areas of personal, social, educational, and career development. Mastery of these developmental tasks will enable students to acquire the knowledge, skills, and values to become responsible, productive citizens.

The Student Assistance Program Team works at the high school and middle school to identify and help students experiencing problems related to substance abuse. The team is comprised of guidance counselors along with school administrators, teachers, licensed school psychologist, and licensed school nurse. Working closely with this group are chemical dependency counselors and mental health professionals who may meet with students referred to the team. Students referred to the program can receive professional counseling at appropriate drug and alcohol or mental health community agencies. Student assistance is also available at the elementary level through the Child Study Team.

The Child Study Team (CST) helps children who are having difficulty in school by gathering information, determining individual student's needs, and providing interventions. The team consists of guidance counselors and other school personnel such as principals, learning facilitators, and teachers. Parents are encouraged to become involved in the process as well. The purpose of CST is to provide coordinated support to students who are experiencing academic and/or behavioral difficulty in the classroom. The CST also provides support to teachers and parents in working effectively with all students.
