Vietnam Veterans Visit LSHS
December 17, 2014
Members of Chapter 1008 of the Vietnam Veterans of America at LSHS
A group from Chapter 1008 of The Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) visited Lampeter-Strasburg High School on Wednesday, December 10, to facilitate panel discussions about the war. Students in grades 9-12 attended small group sessions in which they could listen to the veterans’ first-hand experiences and ask questions.
A group of 12 VVA members comprised the panel. Each presenter started with an introduction, including his years in the service, what he did in the war, and often told a brief story. The veterans also brought maps and memorabilia to show students, who were very engaged throughout the presentation. After introductions, the men opened the floor for questions. Students had many questions about the veterans’ lives and thoughts during the Vietnam War, as well as their opinions on a host of other topics. It was a wonderful exchange filled with thoughtful questions and honest answers.
We would like to thank each of the veterans who volunteered for the presentation for his service to our country and also for taking the time to come and talk with our students. It’s an experience they will not soon forget.
