National Merit Scholar Semifinalists
September 12, 2014
Carolyn Baker, Ethan Emmert, and Keeton Yost are 2015 National Merit Scholar Semifinalists
Three Lampeter-Strasburg School District students are among the 16,000 academically talented students named today as semifinalists in the 60th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Selected from 1,400,000 applicants, the semifinalists represent less than one percent of high school seniors nationwide and include the highest scoring entrants in each state. To qualify, each semifinalist submitted a detailed application including an essay, endorsement by a high school official, and proof of consistent high academic performance and outstanding scores on qualifying tests.
The semifinalists are Carolyn Baker, Ethan Emmert and Keeton Yost. Carolyn is the daughter of Byron Baker and Lisa Shi, both of Lancaster; Ethan is the son of David and Jill Emmert of Lancaster, and Keeton is the son of Alex and Diane Yost of Willow Street. All three are currently seniors at Lampeter-Strasburg High School and are planning to enroll in college in the fall of 2015.
The students will now complete additional requirements to be considered next year for finalist status. Of the 15,000 finalists, 9,200 will go on to receive scholarships through the program. Scholarship winners will be notified in March, 2015. These scholarship recipients will join more than 308,000 other distinguished young people who have earned the title of Merit Scholar in the past 60 years.
