Community Engagement Meeting Recap
April 2, 2014
The Lampeter-Strasburg School District Community Engagement Meeting was held on March 31, 2014, in the High School cafeteria. We are appreciative of the community members who took time from their busy schedules to become informed and to provide feedback to the District. As promised, it was an engaging evening!
Community members were seated at tables with Board members and administrators. This allowed for open conversation and robust question and answer sessions. Superintendent Dr. Kevin Peart and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Andrew Godfrey began the meeting with a short overview before delving into the three topics for the evening:
Pennsylvania School Performance Profile:
Much has changed recently regarding how Pennsylvania school districts are evaluated and rated. The new system for assessing school districts and individual school buildings was explored in depth in this section, including where L-S stands in comparison to other schools in Lancaster County, IU13, and the entire State.
Teacher and Principal Evaluation System:
There is no one-size-fits-all evaluation method for educators. The new and improved rubric L-S uses to evaluate teachers, non-teaching staff, and administrators was explained, as well as a timeline as to when these methods will be put into practice.
A group of Lampeter-Strasburg stakeholders met over the past several years to formulate a plan for the District to follow from 2013 to 2017. The plan was summarized, and the District goals were examined.
Each table held a 15-minute discussion after each topic presentation. The notes from each table will be compiled and presented at the April 22, 2014, Board Workshop meeting. This meeting is open to the public and takes place at 7:30 p.m. in the Board Meeting Room at the L-S Administration Building.
Paper copies of the handouts and the Powerpoint presentation also are available by contacting Anne Harnish, Community Relations Coordinator, at 717-464-3311, extension 1010. Thanks again to everyone who attended!
