The Lampeter-Strasburg Varsity Club inducted two new members into the Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, September 27. The 2013 inductees were Todd Garber, a 20-year veteran L-S baseball coach, and Emily Kruger, a star cross country runner from the class of 2003. The induction took place at halftime during the annual Varsity Club Athletic “Hall of Fame Game,” which this year featured L-S vs. Ephrata. The Pioneers won the game 34-0.
Mr. Garber served the district as a baseball coach for 20 years (1993-2012), including 15 years as head coach. During that time, he compiled a record of 250 wins and 102 losses, brought home 2 PIAA State Championships (1994 & 2005) and led the team to the State Playoffs 5 times, among other achievements. Mr. Garber guided hundreds of L-S athletes to personal and professional success, including 4 professional players, 43 college level players and 6 coaches. He has worked as a professional baseball scout, as a coordinator and instructor at local youth baseball organizations, camps and clinics. Mr. Garber also gave back by promoting charity events that raised thousands of dollars.
Ms. Kruger was a member of the L-S cross country and track and field teams for 4 years and earned 4 varsity letters in each. She holds several records, including the L-S and school records in 5000m, 3200m, 3000m, and 1600m. Ms. Kruger was twice named as LL League Cross Country All-Star (2001 and 2002) and medaled in several PIAA Championships. She has been recognized nationally by Track and Field Magazine and ESPN. Ms. Kruger was recruited by Yale University to be a part of both the cross country and track teams.
