High School Students of the Month
Lampeter-Strasburg High School teachers recognized four seniors for their acheivements during March 2017.
Catharine is a senior and the daughter of Gregory and Suzanne Knowles of Strasburg. She is a member of the Pioneer Interact Club, Shakespeare Club, Varsity Club, Enigma, and cheerleading (including Cheer MVP in 2016). Outside of school, Catharine helps with the Strasburg Area Sertoma Club and has a part-time job. She enjoys writing, reading, and working on her blog. Catharine plans on pursuing a career in publishing and becoming an author.
Student of the Month
Bonnie is a senior and the daughter of Troy and Debra Herr of Willow Street. She is a member of Mrs. Mellinger’s work crew and was also a Student of the Month in middle school. Bonnie has assisted with Vacation Bible School at Pequea Church, helped to coach Challenger basketball, and participated in Acts of Kindness through Aarons’ Acres. She enjoys music, theater, wildlife, art, and learning about Russia. She also has a passion for Syrian refugees. Bonnie will attend a School to Work program and hopes to own an art studio in the future.
Colin is a senior and the son of Brett and Betsy Anderson of Lancaster. At LSHS, Colin is the vice president of Varsity Club and a member of the varsity swim and soccer teams, as well as a member of National Honor Society and the High School Heroes program. He is a National Merit Commended Student, an Eagle Scout, and a member of the L-L All-League swim team. Colin enjoys playing soccer, swimming, and coaching swimming. He is a coach and swimmer on the L-S YMCA summer swim team and a member of the Lancaster Aquatic Club. He plans to major in economics or political science.
Student of the Month
Jared is a senior and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey and Katherine Houck of Lancaster. Jared is a member of the varsity basketball team and the Pioneer Interact Club. He received an L-L League honorable mention for basketball and is an honor roll student. Jared volunteers at the Water Street Rescue Mission and works at Darrenkamp’s. He enjoys playing basketball, lifting weights at the YMCA, and spending time with family and friends. Jared plans to obtain a master’s degree in exercise science at McDaniel College to become a personal trainer.
