Record Year for Toys for Tots

December 9, 2014

Riley Toys for Tots 201

Lampeter-Strasburg students donated a record 1,274 toys this year as part of the District's annual Toys for Tots "Stuff the Bus" campaign. Representatives from the United States Marine Corps escorted Santa and his elves (members of the LSHS Interact Club) around campus to collect toys as part of the countywide service project. The Marines took the gifts from the stuffed bus to the Toys for Tots distribution center, where they will be be given to local families in need.

Amazingly, about 10 percent of the toys collected this year were brought in by just one student. Second grader Riley Moore worked for months to collect 127 toys for the campaign. A serious Toys for Tots advocate, he challenged the entire high school and was excited to be beaten when students there collected 135 toys. It's safe to say that Riley is on the nice list this year!

We would like to say a big thank you to Riley, and to each and every student and family who took the time to make 2014 the most successful L-S Toys for Tots on record. Happy Holidays!
