2014 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees Honored

Class of 2014 Athletic Hall of Fame

Courtney Eckman, David Sigler, and Melissa (Sipe) Yowler were inducted into the Lampeter-Strasburg Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, September 19, 2014.

Three Lampeter-Strasburg School District alumni were inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, September 19. The official ceremony was held at the Hans Herr Elementary cafeteria. The inductees were publicly recognized later in the evening during the annual Hall of Fame football game. Congratulations to the Class of 2014!

Courtney Eckman (Class of 2007)

  • Was a member of the Varsity Football cheerleading squad for 4 years earning 4 varsity letters
  • Was a member of the Varsity Softball team for 4 years and earned 4 letters
  • Selected as Softball team captain in 2006 and 2007
  • Earned the Varsity Softball team MVP honors for 4 years as a pitcher
  • Assisted the team to the Section Three Title and LL League Championships in 2006 and 2007
  • Helped the Varsity Softball team achieve the District 3 Championship in 2007
  • Was selected to the LL League All-Star First Team in 2004, 2006 and 2007
  • Ranked on the LL League All-Star Second Team in 2005
  • Earned the honor of being named the Lancaster New Era All Star Pitcher and Player of the Year her senior year
  • Was also selected to the PIAA First Team All-State as a pitcher in 2007
  • Held school records for number of innings pitched, amount of strikeouts, ERA, and number of wins in a season
  • Was awarded an athletic scholarship for softball to continue playing at Millersville University
  • Played for 4 years for the PSAC Division 2 Millersville University Softball Team
  • Was named a PSAC Scholar Athlete all 4 years at Millersville
  • Holds a Millersville record for number of games won, tied for the best ERA and lead the team in strikeouts in 2009
  • Earned the Aurora Wicki Scholarship at Millersville for outstanding leadership and sportsmanship
  • Employed as a fifth grade teacher at Pequea Valley School District

David Sigler (Class of 1997)

  • Was a member of the Boys Basketball team from 1994-1997 earning 2 varsity letters
  • Was a member of the Baseball team from 1994-1997 earning 3 varsity letters
  • During his sophomore year, he assisted the Varsity Baseball team in achieving the LL League Section 4 Championship and PA State Runners-up Title (AA)
  • As a junior, he was selected as a First Team Section 4 All-Star as a pitcher, and assisted the team in achieving the Section 4 Championship Title
  • As a senior, he was selected as a team captain and placed on the First Team Section 4 All-Star
  • He pitched 48 consecutive scoreless innings his senior year and threw 2 no-hitters
  • With these statistics he secured the position on the District 3 PA Supreme Team and was awarded the Lancaster County Strathmeyer Scholarship Award
  • Received the L-S Distinguished Baseball Alumni Award in 2005
  • Continued to play baseball for 4 years at Washington and Lee University earning 4 varsity letters
  • Was awarded the Team Pitching Award, First Team All-Conference Pitcher, Second Team All-Region, and Honorable Mention All-State in his sophomore year at Washington and Lee
  • As a senior, he was named team captain, First Team All-Conference, Second Team All-Region, and the Team Pitching Award
  • Currently holds records at Washington and Lee for strikeouts in a season (77), most starts in a season (13), most innings pitched in a game (13), most complete games in a season (9), most complete games in a career (26) and most shut outs (2)
  • Employed as the Associate Director of Athletics at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA

Melissa (Sipe) Yowler (Class of 1991)

  • Was a member of the Girls Cross Country team for 1 year earning a varsity letter
  • Played on the basketball team for 4 years earning 3 varsity letters
  • Was a member of the field hockey team for 3 years and earned 2 varsity letters
  • During her senior year, was elected captain of the hockey team, named to the LL League All-Star team and received the MVP award
  • She was also a member of the Track and Field team for 4 years and achieved 4 varsity letters
  • She qualified for the District Track Meet for 4 years in the 4x400 relay, 2 years in the 300 hurdles, and 1 year in the javelin throw
  • Held L-S school records as a junior and senior in the 300 and 100 hurdles
  • Awarded the Senior Female Athletic Award her senior year at LS and awarded an athletic scholarship for field hockey to continue playing at Millersville University
  • Played field hockey for 4 years at Millersville earning 4 varsity letters
  • Selected as team captain, named PSAC Player of the Week, and listed as an NCAA Senior All-Star during her years at MU
  • Also ranked 6th in the record books with career goals scored in field hockey at Millersville
  • Joined the Millersville University Women’s Lacrosse team, played for 4 years earning 4 varsity letters
  • During her junior year was named the team MVP, selected for the PSAC All-Conference Team, and chosen as a Brine Division 2 All-American
  • Again as a senior, was awarded the team MVP, listed on the PSAC All-Conference Team, and voted as the team’s Best Defensive Player
  • Employed as a social studies teacher at L-S
